July 2008
Hello Comrades!
I begin my first month as Senior Vice Commander
grateful to every one who has given my fellow Post Officers and myself
the opportunity to represent you. I am truly humbled by the words of
encouragement and support that I have received from everyone!
First and foremost, I’d like to extend my
congratulations to Glenn Holman for being elected as the
2nd District Commander. You are more than deserving of the
position; and we all know you will be nothing less than perfect in your
duties.
Carl Penning, III and his team certainly left
with some big shoes to fill (just not the pink Crocs, Carl!). They had a
most successful year and are certainly deserving of all the accolades
that come their way. I believe we can continue to build on an already
strong foundation and bring more Comrades into the family. If just one
out of every four current members brought in one new member each month
until the end of the calendar year, then our membership would be more
than doubled be fore we even ring in 2009! It is a lofty goal in deed,
but one I believe is attainable through team work!
Finally, as many of you whom I’ve had the pleasure of
meeting already know, I am still on active duty. I will be reenlisting
on July 10 at the Post, just before the start of our Post Meeting. It
will be a very short ceremony and I would love to have each and every
Comrade come out to witness it. This being my final enlistment prior to
retiring, I am truly honored to have Ed Francis, whom many
of you also know, read my Oath of Enlistment. Without him, I would
likely not even be a VFW member – and for that, I owe a debt of
gratitude.
