July 2008

Comrades & Ladies,

As the month of June began, one of our Life Members answered the call of the Supreme Commander; and for this we are truly saddened.

Comrade John A. Fitzgerald, Jr. 92, passed away June 1. He was predeceased in 2002 by his wife of 61 years, Annie Laurie Gilbert Fitzgerald; his son, John in 1991, and his three brothers and three sisters.

A master brick layer, Mr. Fitzgerald was a member of Miles Memorial United Methodist Church and retired from the Naval Amphibious Base in 1982. He was a proud veteran of WWII, having served with the U.S. Army in the Pacific. He was also a member of the DAV, and a Past Master of Ocean View Masonic Lodge #335 AF&AM.

He is survived by several nieces, nephews, and many good friends. A graveside ser vice was held June 7 in Forest Lawn Cemetery, the Rev. Kathleen M.R. Monge officiaing. Masonic rites were given and military honors accorded.

Please remember to inform me of any deaths when you learn of them. If the obituary is in an other state or county, please include info on how I can obtain a copy which can be used in this column.

We are pleased to learn of the quick recovery of our recent Past Post Commander, Life Member Daniel Chapman, who had surgery in mid-May.

We also need to keep in our prayers the many veterans in VA Hospitals and elsewhere who are recovering from various and as sorted in juries received in the line of duty.

I appreciate being notified when illness, death or in jury occurs, so that the Post will be aware of the situation(s) and I can send appropriate cards to the Comrades and/or their families.

Yours, in comradeship,

... Albert N. Williams
